The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission says prison guards had opened fire at prisoners who were running away from the fire that gutted down a building at the Qilinto prison in August last year.

The Commissioner, Adisu Gebregziabher, told the Law and Justice Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives that prison administrators and security guards who shot at prisoners running away from the arson should be brought to justice.

The government has denied that prison guards fired shots at prisoners running away from fire, but instead says the guards fired at those who were trying to escape from prison.

The government says 23 inmates died in the arson but independent rights groups confirmed the death of at least 67 prisoners and examination of the bodies indicate that 45 of the prisoners died from gunshot wounds.

It is the first time that a government body admitted guards at the Qilinto prison fired at inmates but the commissioner stops short of saying the shootings were the cause of the death of inmates.

Political analysts say the report by the Commissioner was a whitewash and attempt to dodge responsibility for the death of prisoners and blame few guards for a heinous crime that  the regime could be held responsible.

Ethiopian regime prosecutors instead charged jailed political prisoners for the arson at the notorious Qilinto prison. The charge alleges that 38 prisoners were responsible for the death of 23 inmates in the fire.

The human rights commission is widely criticized for overlooking human rights abuses and justifying for gross rights violations perpetrated by the regime. Dr. Gebregziabher was previously head of the electoral commission accused of conducting stage-managed and undemocratic elections that ensured total domination for the ruling TPLF-led party.

ነዋሪዎቹ እንደሚሉት የገበያ ቦታው እና በዚያው የነበሩ ሱቆች በደህዴን ካድሬዎች እና በአቶ ሃይለማሪያም ደጋፊዎች የተያዙ ነበሩ። በዚሁ ሳቢያ ወጣቶች የስራ ዕድል ባላገኙበት ሁኔታ ጥቂቶች ተጠቃሚ መሆናቸው በህዝቡ ውስጥ ከፍተኛ ምሬት መፍጠሩን የኢሳት ምንጮች ገልጸዋል። በቃጠሎው ስለደረሰው የጉዳት መጠን የታወቀ ነገር የለም።

ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ሃይለማሪያም ለምርጫ በተወዳደሩበት አረካ መቶ በመቶ አሸናፊ ሆነዋል በተባለበት ጊዜ አንድም ሰው ለተፎካካሪያቸው ድምፅ አልሰጠም መባሉ ይታወሳል።

በዚህ ውጤት ተፎካክረው እና ቤተሰቦቹ ወይም ደጋፊዎቹ ምንም ድምፅ አልሰጡትም የሚለው የምርጫ ቦርድ ሪፖርት በህዝቡ ዘንድ መሳለቂያ እንደነበር አይዘነጋም።

በወላይታ አረካ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ሃይለማሪያም ህዝቡን ወክለው ከተመረጡና ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ከሆኑ በኋላ መራጮች ዞር ብለው አይተዋቸው እንደማያውቁ ታዛቢዎች ይናገራሉ።

The Ethiopian Supreme Court’s ruling today that two bloggers who were facing terrorism charges under the draconian Anti-Terrorism Proclamation (ATP) should face a new trial for offences against the Constitution, including encrypting messages, flies in the face of justice, said Amnesty International today.

The court ruled that, although the prosecution did not provide sufficient evidence to support terrorism charges against Nathnael Feleke and Atnaf Birhane (members of the Zone 9 Bloggers Collective), it had presented enough to support charges of “provocation and preparation to commit or support outrages against the Constitution or the Constitutional Order.”

Muthoni Wanyeki, Amnesty International’s Director for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes, said:

“Learning how to encrypt messages is not a crime, but a freedom protected under the right to privacy and freedom of expression.

“The court’s reasoning that the bloggers confession as to having taken training on ‘security-in-a-box,’ as well as on campaigning, monitoring demonstrations and leadership, demonstrates their malicious intention against the government is not only ridiculous, but also inconsistent with their human rights as guaranteed under the Ethiopian Constitution, as well as regional and international standards.”

Amnesty International calls on the Ethiopian authorities to immediately drop the charges against Nathnael Feleke and Atnaf Birhane.

የወልቃይት የዐማራ የማንነት ጥያቄ እስካልተመለሰ ድረስ የዐማራ ተጋድሎ ተዋናኝ ገበሬዎች መቼም ቢሆን ትግላቸውን እንደማያቆሙ በየቦታው ያነጋገራቸው ዜጎች በአጽንኦት አስረድተዋል፡፡ ከ20 ሺህ በላይ ወጣቶች ታስረው የስቃይ ሰለባ ቢሆኑም እንዲሁም በብዙ ቦታዎች ያለው አመጽ የቆመ ቢመስልም በሰሜን የዐማራ ገበሬዎች መራር የትጥቅ ትግል ከቀን ወደ ቀን እየጨመረ እየሄደ ነው ይላል የኢሪን ዘገባ፡፡ 

በነሐሴ 1 ቀን 2008 ዓ.ም ባሕር ዳር በግፍ ወደ ትግራይ የተወሰደውን የወልቃይትን ሕዝብና መሬት ለማስመለስ ጩኸቱን ያሰማውን የዐማራ ሕዝብ የአገዛዙ ወታደሮች በጥይት ደብድበው ከ52 በላይ ሰዎችን ገደሉ፤ የዐማራ ተጋድሎ በተቀጣጠለባቸው ሳምንታት ብቻ ከ227 በላይ ዜጎች በጥይት ተገደሉ፤ ይህን ተከትሎም የአስቸኳይ ጊዜ አዋጅ ታወጀ ይላል የዜና አውታሩ ዝርዝር ምልከታ፡፡ 

ይኼው የዜና አውታር በጎንደር ያሉ የሃይማኖት አባቶችንና ግለሰቦችን አናግሮ ‹‹በጎንደር ስለ አርበኛው ጎቤ መልኬና የወልቃይት የዐማራ ማንነት ጥያቄ አስተባባሪው ኮሎኔል ደመቀ ዘውዱ በፍቅርና በኩራት የማያወራ የለም፤ ገበሬዎች ለማንነታቸው ሕይወታቸውን ከመስጠት ወደ ኋላ አይሉም፤ ዐማራነት ካልተከበረ ወደ ኋላ የሚል የለም›› እንዳሉት በዳሰሳው አስፍሯል፡፡

የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ በብድር ስም እየተራቆተ መሆኑ ተገለጸ

የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ እንደ ሃገሪቱ ልማት ባንክ በብድር ስም እየተራቆተ መሆኑን ምንጮች ገለጹ። ለባንኩ ፕሬዚደንት በጉቦ መልክ እጅግ ዘመናዊ ቤት የተሰራላቸው ቢሆንም፣ እርሳቸው የሚኖሩበት ግን ባንኩ በዋስትና በወረሰው ቤት ውስጥ መሆኑንም መረዳት ተችሏል።

የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክና የኢትዮጵያ ልማት ባንክ የህወሃት ንብረት ለሆነው ኤፈርት ኩባንያዎች ብድር ምንጭነት በቀጠለበት በአሁኑ ወቅት፣ ከገዢው ፓርቲ ጋር ቅርበት ያላቸው ባለሃብቶችም ከህግና ደንብ ውጭ ከፍተኛ ገንዘብ እየወሰዱ ሲሆን፣ የአንዳንዶቹ ብድር ከ2 ቢሊዮን ብር መብለጡንም ለኢሳት በዝርዝር የደረሰው መረጃ ያስረዳል።

በዚሁ ረገድ በግንባር ቀደምትነት ከሚጠቀሱት አንዱ የተክለብርሃን አምባዬ ኮንስትራክሽን ባለቤት አቶ ተክለብርሃን አምባዬ መሆናቸውም ተመልክቷል። ባለሃብቱ ከኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ የወሰዱትና ያልተመለሰው ብድር 1.5 ቢሊዮን ብር የደረሰ ቢሆንም፣ ዕዳቸውን ሳይከፍሉ ያለጨረታ ግዙፍ የባንኩን ፕሮጄክቶች እየወሰዱ ይገኛል።

መገናኛ አደባባይ የሚገኘውን የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ህንጻ ያለጨረታ መስራታቸውን የሚገልፁት የባንኩ ምንጮች፣ ባንኩ ልደታ አካባቢ የሚያሰራውንም ህንጻ በተለየ ሁኔታ ያለጨረታ እንዲወስዱ መደረጉም ተመልክቷል። ጨረታውን ያሸነፈው ድርጅት ተገልሎ ግንባታው ለተክለብርሃን አምባዬ ኮንስትራክሽ የተሰጠበት ሁኔታ በግልፅ አልተመለከተም።

የህዝባዊ ወያኔ ሃርነት ትግራይ ህወሃት አመራሮች እንዲሁም ቀደምት ታጋዮችና የጦር አዛጆች በይበልጥም ከአቶ አባይ ጸሃዬና ከብ/ጄኔራል ክንፈ ዳኘው ጋር በቅርበትና በሽርክና ይሰራሉ የሚባሉት አቶ ተክለብርሃን አምባዬ፣ በአቶ አባይ ጸሃዬ ትዕዛዝ ይንቀሳቀሳሉ ለሚባሉት የባንኩ ፕሬዚደንት አቶ በቃሉ ዘለቀ ዘመናዊ መኖሪያ ቤት ገንብተው በስጦታ መስጠታቸውን መረዳት ተችሏል።

አቶ በቃሉ ዘለቀ በስጦታ የተበረከተላቸው ቤት በዋስትና አስይዘው ራሳቸው ብድር እንደወሰዱ የሚገልጹት ምንጮች፣ አዲሱን ቤት አከራይተው ባንኩ በዋስትና በወረሰው ቤት ውስጥ እንደሚኖሩ ገልጸዋል። ባንኩ በ10 ሚሊዮን ብድር በዋስትና ይዞ የወረሰውን ቤት ባንኩ ሽጦ ገቢ ማድረግ ሲገባው፣ የባንኩ ፕሬዚደንት እንዲኖሩበት መደረጉ ጥያቄ ማስነሳቱን መረዳት ተችሏል።

የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ የቦርድ ሊቀመንበርነትን በአሁኑ ወቅት የያዙት አቶ በረከት ስምዖን ቢሆኑም፣ በእያንዳንዱ የባንኩ እንቅስቃሴ የባንኩን ፕሬዚደንት አቶ በቃሉ ዘለቀን እየተቆጣጠሩ የፈቀዱትን የሚያስፈጽሙት የባንኩ የቦርድ ሊቀመንበር አቶ አባይ ጸሃዬ መሆናቸውንም የኢሳት ምንጮች ገልጸዋል።

አቶ አባይ ጸሃዬ አሁን የቦርድ ሊቀመንበርነቱን ቢለቁም፣ የቦርድ አባል መሆናቸው ታውቋል።

A former political prisoner says TPLF investigators inflict unimaginable physical and psychological torture on prisoners including but not limited to damaging their reproductive organs and making them sterile for life.

In an interview with the VOA Amharic service, Habtamu Ayalew, former spokesperson for the opposition Andinet Party said not only he had endured physical torture, the psychological scar is still enduring even worse.

Habtamu said what the investigators inflict on prisoners is something he wouldn’t dare to say in public due to it’s graphic nature and that his religion would allow him to speak about the bestial acts of regime investigators.

He said investigators would hang a bottle of water on prisoners’ genitals while the prisoners are hanged on a pole to obtain forced confession. “They also tie ropes to your genital and pull it for a period of time,” he told the VOA. “I know so many prisoners who have become sterile due to this heinous torture.”

He said prisoners at the Central Investigation Bureau in Addis Ababa,   widely considered as Ethiopia’s torture chamber, are only allowed to use the bathroom twice a day for an average of 2 min at a time.

Habtamu recounted his experience at the Investigation Bureau where he was once put in solitary confinement without access to a bathroom and was forced to use plastic bags and water bottles. “They would also punch you on the back, right where your kidneys are, so you will take a leak on yourself. They would tie prisoners to a chair for days on till they defecate on themselves.”

Habtamu mentioned by name some of the political prisoners that have undergone through some of the despicable acts of torture: Abebe Wergesa, Lejisa Alemayehu, Angaw Tegegn, Agbaw Setegn, Engidaw Wanaw and Abay Zewdu.

Security forces arrested Habtamu Ayalew and detained him for over two years falsely accusing him of having links to Patriotic Ginbot 7, an armed group fighting the tyrannical regime for a democratic change. He was later released and came to the United States to get medical attention to a serious ailment that resulted from the torture he had endured at prison.

በውጭ ብድር የተጀመሩ የስኳር ፋብሪካዎች ግንባታቸው ሳይጠናቀቅ የብድር የመክፈያ ጊዜያቸው መድረሱ ተገለጸ

ኢትዮጵያን ስኳር ላኪ ሃገር ያደርጋሉ ተብለው ከውጭ በተገኘ ከ70 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ ብድር ግንባታቸው ከሰባት አመት በፊት የተጀመሩ ፋብሪካዎች ግንባታቸው ተስተጓጉሎ እያለ ብድር የመክፈያ ጊዜያቸው መድረሱ ተገለጸ።

በከፍተኛ የውጭ ምንዛሪ እጥረት ውስጥ የሚገኘው መንግስት በበኩሉ በመገንባት ላይ ያሉትን ጨምሮ በስራ ላይ ያሉ የስኳር ፋብሪካዎች ከውጭ ባለሃብቶች ጋር በሽርክና ለመስራው መወሰኑን ይፋ አድርጓል።

መንግስት ከተለያዩ አበዳሪ የፋይናንስ ተቋማት በብድር ባገኘው ገንዘብ የወልቃይት፣ የኦሞ፣ ኩራዝ አንድ ሁለትና ሶስት እንዲሁም የጣና በለስ ቁጥር አንድና ሁለት ፕሮጄክቶችን ለመገንባት እንቅስቃሴ መጀመሩ ይታወሳል።

ይሁንና ሃገሪቱን ከስኳር እጥረት በማላቀቅ ኢትዮጵያ ምርቷን ወደ ውጭ ሃገር በመላክ ከፍተኛ የውጭ ምንዛሪ እንድታገኝ ያደርጋሉ ተብሎ ተስፋ የተጣለባቸው ፋብሪካዎች አብዛኞቹ በጅምር ላይ መቅረታቸው ተመልክቷል።

ፋብሪካዎቹ በከፍተኛ የፋይናንስ እጥረት ውስጥ በመግባታቸውና የተጀመሩ ፕሮጄክቶችን ለማስጨርስ ተጨማሪ የውጭ ምንዛሪ በማስፈለጉ ምክንያት መንግስት ነባሮቹንና አዳዲስ ግንባታዎች በሽርክና ለማካሄድ መወሰኑን የመንግስት መገናኛ ብዙሃን ዘግበዋል።

ፋብሪካዎቹ በአምስት አመት ውስጥ ወደ ምርት ይገባሉ ተብሎ የተጠበቁ ሲሆን፣ ግንባታቸው በ25 በመቶ ላይ የሚገኝ እንዳለም የኢትዮጵያ ስኳር ኮርፖሬሽን መረጃ ያመለክታል።

ፋብሪካዎች ለሰባት አመት ያህል መጠናቀቅ ባለመቻላቸው ከአበዳሪ ካላት የተገኘ ብድር የመጀመሪያ ክፍያ የመጀመሪያ ጊዜው መቃረቡን ኮርፖሬሽኑ አስታውቋል።

የኮንትራት አስተዳደርና የፋይናንስ ችግሮች ፋብሪካዎቹ በተያዘላቸው የጊዜ ገደብ እንዳይጠናቀቁ ካደረጉ ምክንያቶች መካከል ዋነኞቹ መሆናቸውን የኮርፖሬሽኑ የኮሙኒኬሽን ሃላፊ የሆኑት አቶ ጋሻው አይችሉህም ለሃገር ውስጥ መገናኛ ብዙሃን ገልጸዋል።

በሃሙስ ዘገባችን ለጣና በለስ የስኳር ፋብሪካ ተዘጋጅቶ የነበረ የሸንኮራ አገዳ ምርት ፋብሪካው ባለመጠናቀቁ ምክንያት ምርቱ እንዲቃጠል መደረጉን መዘገባችን ይታወሳል።

ከፋብሪካው በፊት ለምርት ደርሶ የነበረው የሸንኮራ አገዳ እንዲወገድ የተወሰነው ምርት ከፍተኛ ገንዘብ የፈሰሰበት እንደነበር ለጉዳዩ ቅርበት ያላቸው አካላት ይገልጻሉ።

በሃገሪቱ ያሉ ጅምርና ነባር የስኳር ፋብሪካዎችን ከውጭ ባለሃብቶች ጋር በሽርክና ለማስተዳደር የቻይንና የአውሮፓ ሃገራት በመደራደር ላይ ሲሆን፣ መንግስት ያጋጠመው የፋይናንስ እጥረት ወደዚህ አማራጭ እንዲገባ ማስገደዱንም ባለሙያዎች አስተድተዋል።

ይህ በእንዲህ እንዳለም የጣና በለስ አንድና ሁለት የስኳር ፕሮጄክቶችን ለአንድ የቱርክ ኩባንያ 75 በመቶ ድርሻን ለመስጠት ሲካሄድ የነበረ ድርድር መቋረጡም ታውቋል።

በዲሳ ግሩፕ የተሰኘ ይኸው የቱርክ ኩባንያ ወደ አንድ ቢሊዮን ዶላር አካባቢ ገንዘብ በመመደብ የፕሮጄክቱን 75 በመቶ ባለቤትነት ለመረከብ ድርድር ጀምሮ የነበረ ሲሆን፣ ከገንዘብ አከፋፈልና ከትርፉ ክፍፍል ጋር ከመንግስት ጋር ሊደርስ አለመቻሉ ተገልጿል።

ይሁንና ሁለቱም ወገኖች ተፈጥሯል በተባለው አለመግባባት ዙሪያ ዝርዝር መረጃን ከመስጠት ተቆጥበዋል።
