Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The Addis Ababa City Administration announced on Monday banning the scheduled demonstration by Unity for Democracy and Justice(UDJ) , which was due to be held this Sunday in Addis Ababa.
The Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ), which called the demonstration, on its part, said that it will hold the scheduled demonstration, as it was originally scheduled and planned.
The city administration in its written letter to the party indicated that the party-UDJ- could not hold the demonstration in the area where there are schools and many government offices around.
“The party does not accept the ban by the city administration. It is against the law,” said UDJ.
The demonstration aims to express concern by the deteriorating situation of basic public services in Addis Ababa, home to around five million people, according to UDJ.
Residents of the city are expressing lack of regular water and electricity supply.
It was to be recalled that UDJ called the demonstration to be held in front of the Prime Minister Bureau.(ESAT)
